Mazda 6 One-Person Brake Fluid Flush
Bleeding the brakes on a 2018 Mazda 6. Mazda recommends flushing your brake fluid every 2 years. Bleeding brakes usually takes 2 people, one to loosen and tighten the bleeder screw and one person to work the brake pedal. A one-person bleeder bottle with a one-way check valve makes the job much faster and easier. See links below for the parts and tools I used:

    It’s so tough watching people almost dump that amount of tools in the garbage😂 I get it, takes time & money to repair things, far more if you’re not familiar with how to repair. But I can’t imagine a fabrication shop that wouldn’t benefit from an annual tool maintenance day, where you save $1,000’s of dollars a year by doing the basic maintenance to prevent total failure.

    I had that type of model but w the long straight wand and flint lighter, when that burned out in less than 5 uses (china) and replaced and it gunked up the fluid hole or gas adjuster once again went to the shorter model w the throttle control as well as the turning style gas adjuster with a bend to the shaft, also has a bbq style push button lighter attached, even though its a foot shorter it has an ergonomic handle and the throttle is great, like an old ski doo gas pull type throttle.

      Yeah, I specifically choose the model without the ignitor because I assumed it'd fail, and I'd end up lighting it myself anyway. :) At first, I thought mine was too short but then I realized it doesn't need to be close to the ground. Actually, I've found that if I hold it closer to the ground, the flame with blow itself out sometimes.

    Fixing tools is generally easy as the same items tend to fail. Brushes, commutators, switches and cords. I maintained an angle and die grinder fleet for a welding school and it was a mix of brands to see which models (model is more critical than brand) held up. Makita have been making excellent grinders for decades and their corded grinders are excellent. I repack with red wheel bearing grease including new grinders if not sufficiently lubed.

    • @Mikeattempts
      @Mikeattempts 2 дні тому

      Yeah, these Makita grinders are pretty simple so there are only so many things that can fail.

    That comptration in the motor is a odd centrifugal switch, if it broke again , it can be replaced whit a modern centrifugal switch for the same size motor or a push button as a starting capacitor switch.

    • @Mikeattempts
      @Mikeattempts 3 дні тому

      Ah, it's good to know I'd be able to replace it with a modern style centrifugal switch. I'm not sure if I understand how it works though. I assume that little spring-loaded post with the carbon brush retracts once the motor is up to speed but how does it retract? If anything, I would think the brush would be push away from the shaft harder as the shaft spins faster. Thanks for the info!

    Is it always necessary to bleed the old fluid? Can I just let it et used up with time?

    • @hyp3dw4ter6
      @hyp3dw4ter6 3 дні тому

      Yeah you are going to have to get the old fluid bled out. It’s because water (from humidity) gets inside the brake fluid. This makes the brake power weak. Also bc it can build up alot of sediment and clog the brake lines. There’s much more reasons too.

    • @Mikeattempts
      @Mikeattempts 3 дні тому

      I'm no pro but I do know that brake fluid absorbs water from the air and also gets hot from the extreme pressure of braking. So, if not flushed at the recommended intervals, the old fluid it will slowly deteriorate the brake lines from the inside.

    Top tip. Remove the bleed screws and apply PTFE tape to the threads. This prevents air from entering the caliper via the threads during bleeding, and prevents the bleed screws from corroding to the caliper and being difficult to remove next time.

    • @Mikeattempts

      Yeah, but wouldn't you get a bunch of air in the system by removing the bleeders? I've used this bottle to bleed the brakes on both of our cars, and also my clutch, and haven't had any issues with air getting past the threads yet.

    Good video. I use a Motive one man pressure tank that connects to the reservoir so you don’t run out of fluid, and love it. I also discovered that you don’t usually need to remove the wheels, at least not on my Camry, CR-V, RAV4, & Tundra. You can get to the bleeder screws from the front or back, often without jacking up the vehicle much or at all.

    • @Mikeattempts
      @Mikeattempts 5 днів тому

      Ah, that sounds pretty nice. Is it the kind that builds up pressure in the master cylinder reservoir so all you need to do is crack the bleeders and they bleed themselves without needing to pump the brake pedal?

  • @criticalevent

    You're having much better luck with that than I did, I ended up making a knock off Motive Products pressure bleeder out of a garden sprayer, I had tried every type of vacuum method and just could not get the bleeder screws to stop letting air past the threads, even with teflon tape. Maybe it's because the masters on trucks create more vacuum.

    • @Mikeattempts
      @Mikeattempts 6 днів тому

      I actually got one of those vacuum bleeders where you attach your air compressor hose to create suction but then I found this bottle, so I never tried the vac one. The bottle is much less complicated and has worked perfectly to bleed brakes on 2 different cars and also 1 clutch.
